Aranyos Fountain

The stone basin of the ornamental fountain in the square named after him was designed by Andor Nendtvich, and the standing statue of the boy is the work of Elek Lux.

At the edge of the fountain is a young St. John the Baptist wearing a small shawl around his waist. The saint is hardly recognisable because the halo has disappeared from his head and the long double cross from his hands. It was erected in 1942, but the Golden Well is mentioned in a document dating back to 1324. Its inscription proclaims with the Gospel of John: "He who is thirsty, let him come to me and drink."
