The reconstruction of the Old Christian Mausoleum in Pécs, a World Heritage Site, has been completed. The development of the monument was part of an EU grant of almost 900 million Forints. A new, modern reception building was erected above the Roman mausoleum, landscaping was carried out to improve accessibility and the monument's engineering was modernised.
The restored heritage site has been on the UNESCO list since 2000. The Ancient Christian Mausoleum will be opened to the public on 25 June, during the Night of Museums.
Meanwhile, the next part of the project is the renovation of the Cella Septichora Visitor Centre. This will include replacing obsolete mechanical equipment, upgrading the building's power and low-voltage systems, repairing the walkable glass roof and renovating the bathroom.Special attention will also be paid to the development of interactive content, including the installation of LED TVs, computers and a Visual Guide capable of serving up to 10 people at a time. In addition, other interactive content will be included in the project.
The Cella Septichora Visitor Centre is expected to be open to visitors again in early 2023.
