History
As a pioneer of the op art movement, Victor Vasarely (Győző Vásárhelyi) is one of the prominent artists of the 20th century art.
Vasarely was born in Pécs in 1906 but after emigrating to France at his young age, most of his works were created abroad. The Pécs collection provides a comprehensive overview of Vasarely’s oeuvre from the period of the early graphics to the abstract geometric and kinetic works and the large size paintings and tapestries demonstrating the three-dimensional effects of colours. Works by Claire Vasarely, the spouse of Victor
Vasarely, and their son, Yvaral (Jean-Pierre Vasarely) are also on display at the Pécs Vasarely Museum.
