History
You can reach Siklós from Pécs on the 58 road. It is famous for its medieval castle, which is one of the oldest and most unified historical monuments.
Siklós Castle was first mentioned in documents in 1294. The castle, which covers an area of six hectares, was in the hands of the Soklyos, Gara, Perényi and Batthyani families. In the city centre you can see the Malkocs bej mosque, a 16th century Europa Nostra prize-winning Turkish monument, which has been restored to its original state through expert restoration. In the sanctuary of the Roman Catholic church of the town you can see a 15th century fresco ensemble, which is also significant by European standards. The frescoes are the work of Italian masters.
