Promenade

In front of the statue of Ignác Szepessy, the old chestnut and plane trees of the locally protected park are lining the street. Planted in the late 1800s, it provides a picturesque backdrop for some of Pécs' favourite festivals on summer evenings. The kiosk along the tree-lined street was built on the foundations of the southeast corner bastion of the Bishop's Castle. A historicist building, it was already an integral part of the promenade's social life in the late 19th century. The kiosk was a place where beer was tasted and ice cream sold, and the promenade was the venue for military bands.
