Pink Zsolnay Exhibition

In the beginning there was pink - this is the motto of the exhibition, to express how the Zsolnay Factory, after the production of stoneware, has taken a product step to the production of exclusive decorative objects.

The pink household pots were the first mass-produced mass-produced items to replace artisanal pottery, and were the objects of use in the middle class home: for the kitchen, next to the washbasin, on the table. The colour was introduced by Vilmos Zsolnay's experiments in the 1870s, and pink painting became a fashionable colour and brand name for the Pécs factory. A hundred years later, Barnabás Winkler noticed a pink wine jug in a family heirloom and collected the pink colours for decades, before handing over his collection to Pécs, the European Capital of Culture, in 2010. The permanent exhibition presents 1200 pink utensils from the early days of the factory, the result of a unique experiment by Vilmos Zsolnay
