History

Several famous families of Pécs have lived in the buildings surrounding the Hild garden. The eclectic building on the northern side was purchased by the architect József Piatsek in 1816, and was transformed into an apartment building meeting the expectations of the era. The block’s other side, looking over Széchenyi Square, is made up of two Late Baroque buildings, owned by the Hoitsy family for almost 100 years, from the middle of the eighteenth century. The eclectic nineteenth century building on the ssouthern side was the property of the Schönherr family. The Hild garden is home to several musical events. Nowadays the upper halls of the Piatsek and the Hoitsy building are occupied by the House of Arts, home to outstanding events in the cultural life of Pécs.
