The church here was converted into a mosque by the Turks in the Middle Ages, but the Franciscans did not become Turks for 150 years and eventually got everything back.
Reconstructions began in 1720. They sold the lead roof of the mosque to cover the construction. The building complex is the most beautiful work of the Pécs Baroque. Its façade is decorated with a painting by Ernő Gebauer. The main altarpiece depicts a Franciscan scene: the Rapture of Saint Francis of Assisi. A Franciscan monk, Jani Lukács, planed the inlaid cupboards of the sacristy. A popular attraction during Advent is the life-size carved wooden sculptures of the Nativity scene, unique in the country.
