Church of the Hospitaller Order

From the south, the square is closed by the romantic block of the Lorentz Palace (where the Serbian occupation troops were billeted after 1918) and the Church and Monastery of the Order of Mercy.The church can be visited every day between 6.00 and 18.00. The Order of Mercy was founded by St John, who was the main carer of the sick, and is depicted on the relief on the church wall. The church could not escape the eclecticism of the period, but much of its decoration is still Baroque. Inside, the inlaid high altar is particularly noteworthy, and the church organ was made in the Angster Organ Factory in Pécs. In 1908, Ede Graits painted copies of Tiepolo scenes on the vaults.

How tot get there

From the main railway station and the Fairgrounds bus stop, you can get there by buses 4 and 4Y, then walk up Irgalmasok Street for 500 metres from the Arcade.

Parking is available in the underground garage under Kossuth Square.
