History
Created in 1952, the Botanical Garden stretches along the foot of the Mecsek. Thanks to its Sub-Mediterranean climate the Garden displays an ever-growing number of Mediterranean plants.
At the beginnings the garden belonged to the Jesuit’s Pius Secondary School. Following the foundation of the Biology Department at the former Teachers’ Training College, its development into a botanic garden was launched in 1952.
The garden was declared a county nature conservation area in 1989. More than 1200 trees and shrubs, as well as at least 2000 perennials are on display in the 5,2 ha area.
The garden’s and its conservatories’collections include Mediterranien plants, tropical fruits and tub plants, medicinal plants and rock garden perennials, water and marshland plants, cacti, succulents and frost resistent species.
